On match days, the club gate stands open and other, non-match shooting on the range is not allowed during the matches.

Our matches are low-key, yet challenging events that can help anyone, novice or veteran, improve their shooting and gunhandling skills.
Shooting in competition makes you think and plan, in addition to just plain pulling the trigger.  You'll be smarter and more confident, whether you have a gun for casual fun, sport, or defensive purposes.

Match fees vary from five dollars for smallbore to fifteen dollars for the USPSA matches.
Some specials might be more, though.

First time competitors are welcome.  We ask that you arrive a bit earlier, about an hour before the start time, to get a range orientation and safety checkout with one of our instructors so that you can be comfortable with the range rules and shooting the match.

The most important of the range rules is that North Porter is a "cold range" on match days.  This means there is NO handling of firearms anywhere on the property except for the designated Safety Area, or when the shooter is actually on the firing line and is instructed by the range officer to handle the gun.
Please do not arrive with a loaded gun, or carrying one, or, if you do because you are legally carrying, please go immediately to the Unloading Table and unload the gun before signing up or anything else.
NO ammunition handling is permitted at the Safe Area!
During cold range times, your gun should always be holstered or cased, magazine well and all chambers empty, except when on the firing line and you are instructed to load by the range officer.
There are large signs posted in these areas to help explain things.
Thanks for your consideration of these basic safety rules.

See you out there!
