Here's some pictures from the match.  As happens at some of these matches, cadets from the NILEA police academy join the regulars for training purposes.  This month they had 23 men and women to bring the total number of participants to 69.  Split into four squads, the challenging but efficient course set up by Otis Lawrence and Doug Blazer took about two and half hours to complete.

Here, Match Director Otis Lawrence (R) gives the assembled squad the "walk through", the instructions for the stage.  Evidence of the onset of winter is visible in the bundled-up contestants.

The Academy cadets have had their firearms training by time they get to the matches, but often they are unfamiliar with the rules and conventions of the IDPA discipline.  Here veteran NPCCC member and lifelong wheelgunner Mike Hanlon gives the visitors an overview and some tips to making their stage runs.

The action is underway as Range Officer (as well as MD) Otis Lawrence runs the timer for an Academy cadet as he makes his way from barricade to barricade.  Trailing is second RO and scorekeeper (and co-match director) Doug Blazer.

Here's Mike Hanlon starting his own run down Stage Two with Otis trailing him.  He's already engaged the silhouette visible in front of him and is moving towards the second set.
Observant viewers may think that they are seeing Mike holding a bottom-feeding hunk of Tupperware, but of course we all know it's his faithful Smith 610 wheelgun in its' Halloween costume.  Scary-looking, huh?

In the tight confines of the third stage, RO Bill Warfield watches another Academy man going after the first of the many silhouettes as they become visible to him.
Bill was the eventual overall winner in the match, too.

Safe competition is the first order of business at any shooting match.  Mike Hanlon, a certified firearms instructor, gives the basic safety session to a new shooter trying his first competition.  This session is a mandatory step for all new arrivals and is taking place at the "safe zone."  In common with most ranges that are run as "cold ranges", which means no loaded guns except when actually on the firing line, all gun handling not actually in direct competition takes place at a safety area like this.  Mike is making sure Paul is familiar with the Kimber he has borrowed for the match.

Here in Stage Four, RO Steven Schwegman observes a cadet taking the weak-hand side of the barricade and engaging the targets with only that hand, after having done so strong-hand on the opposite side.
